By splitting the sex roles down the middle, we fail to encourage women both in their action and their protection of themselves. We end up portraying a female population that is passive and helpless- not just in the popular, traditional ways- not just the no-sports-glass-ceiling-prim-and-proper-lady ways- but also in ways that permeate the image we have of ourselves.
